FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If I don't file my tax return on time, will I owe a penalty?

  • If you are due a refund penalties are not normally charged.  To protect the expected refund, you must file you retrun within three years of the due date.

  • If you owe taxes, there will be a penalty and interest due on your tax liability.  The longer you wait to file, the higher the costs.  Payment plans are available.

Do I have to come to your office to prepare my tax returns?

  • No.  I am familiar with the tax laws in all 50 states.  I prepare taxes for clients from coast to coast.  At the end of every tax year I contact my clients with a reminder.  Many of my clients than gather all of their information and mail it to my office.  (Most of my local clients in NJ prefer doing it this way as well).  I complete the return and mail the entire package back to you.  Clients can refer to the CHECKLIST page of this website, click the link, print out the checklist, complete it and return it with their paperwork.

What are your fees?

  • Fees vary based on the complexity of your return.  A taxpayer who is single, pays rent, and has one job with no investments will pay less than the client who has worked in more than one state, itemizes deductions, and has had numerous stock transactions during the year, for example.  The second client's return requires more work and time.

  • You will always receive an estimate of my fees before I prepare your return.  THERE IS NEVER AN OBLIGATION AND INITIAL CONSULTATIONS FOR NEW CLIENTS ARE ALWAYS FREE!

I expect a large refund from the IRS this year, and as a result I am in a rush to get my refund check.  What are my options?

  • Electronic filing will help get your refund to you faster than regular mail.  Unless there are extenuating circumstances, ALL returns are filed electronically, and I DO NOT charge additional fees or "charges" for electronic filing.

Can you look at tax returns filed by another Tax Preparer?

  • I always ask new clients to provide a copy of their previous year's return (s).  These returns will be reviewed AT NO CHARGE.  If it is determined that an amended return will result in additional savings for the client, I will explain in detail and estimate the fees prior to completing the amended return.
